TimelineEnglish

The timeline could have begun much earlier, but here we narrow it down to the instruments that has been labeled psalmodikon

When

What

before 1820

The teacher and organist Bade invented what someone called The German psalmodikon. However, it was not called a psalmodikon there or at that time. It is not even known what it looked like. So we do not count it as such

1822 -
1823

JW Bruun constructed an instrument and named it Psalmodicon.
He seems to have got the idea to his psalmodikon
as he read about Baade's instrument. He knew little or nothing about it, he just adopted the idea of using a chordophone and siffernotskrift for teaching

1823

J Dillner improved Bruuns psalmodicon, added a stairshaped fretboard and soundholes. He called it psalmodikon (spelled with a k.). Bruun knew about Dillner's psalmodikon in 1823 (and he was against the construction)

1825

L Roverud improved Bruuns psalmodicon by adding a fretboard with metal frets and a soundhole. He called it salmodikon (spelled with an s, not ps)

1830

J W Bruun constructed the " Psalmodkon-Klaveer", a keyed psalmodikon.
1830 Claudius Rosenhoff created the Kantokord, in an attempt to improve Bruun's psalmodicon.
